China, 2007: A Photographer's Tour

Shanghai

Shanghai skyline, Tom Isgar, 2007
Shanghai is a modern city, the largest in China with 19 million people. It offers a river front full of interesting people, modern buildings, and varied river traffic. This is a great place for night photography when the buildings are lit. I visited a bamboo garden with lotus ponds and local people playing mahjong, no doubt one of many such attractions. From the door of our modern hotel I walked one block to a narrow street where people were cooking breakfast on the street and bartering with neighbors for fruits and vegetables.

Shanghai is the easiest gateway to China from the US, and although we only stopped there for a short time it could easily be your destination.
